Honest numbers need an honest method. Here is exactly how the status on this site is made.

Real connections, not guesses

A checker opens a fresh connection to each mirror over the real Tor network on a short loop. It does not read a cached answer or ask the market. Each try records whether the address answered and how long it took. One failed try is normal noise on Tor, so it does not count as an outage. A run of failures does.

What the readings tell you

What you see	What it means
All mirrors up	The market is answering and both paths to it are healthy.
One slow, one fast	A network problem on the slow one. Use the fast one. They all go to the same place.
All slow, rest of Tor slow	The network is busy. Not a market problem. Wait it out.
All down for minutes, Tor otherwise fine	The most likely real outage. Check the log.

No checker can measure your own connection for you. If a mirror is green here but will not open for you, get a new circuit before you read anything into it.
